MY EXPERIENCE OF EXPO MILANO 2015

Hello dears,

Today I want to tell you something about my weekend at the expo 2015 in Milan.

But first of all; what is Expo about and why I decided to visit Expo.

Expo 2015 Milano is the universal exhibition that Milan, Italy, will host from 1 May to 31 October 2015. 140 participating countries show the best of their technology, food, healthy, safe while respecting the planet and its equilibrium.

It wants to give a message about the problems of nutrition and the resources of our planet. That’s why Expo choose the theme

“Feeding the planet.  Energy for Life”.

I decided to visit Expo for several reasons. One of them is my passion for travel and photography. One place. 140 countries. The perfect opportunity to exchange ideas, food, stimulating each country’s creativity.

TICKETS

I bought my ticket via Internet for 34 € in conjunction to a parking ticket. (additionally 12,20 €)

The ticket came easily via email, I had to just print.

WHERE DO I START

Expo is open every day from 10:00 to 23:00.

You should know that it is impossible to visit the Expo completely in one day. Unfortunately I had just one day so I tried to see as much as possible. A little preparation can help.

Therefore I’ve compiled a few tips for you:

• The Expo has several entrances, so I recommend you first to pick a plan. You get them from the volunteers on the whole exhibition and they’re available in different languages. The staff is really friendly so do not hesitate to ask,
• as a starting point I took the country Italy because it’s very central and easily accessible from the other countries,
• Expo offers a fun way to document your visit. It’s a kind of passport called Expo Passport. You get a stamp in each country you visited. I loved this idea so much.  You get an overview of the visited countries and it’s just fun to collect the different stamps. It’s also a great souvenir of Expo.  I have bought the pass at the expo shop Excelsoir, inside of “Ovs” for 5 €. This purchase I can only recommend . You will have lots of fun.

PARTICIPANT COUNTRIES 

Many of you have asked me about my favorites. Honestly, I have also asked people who already visited. But I find it very difficult to answer this question briefly. As already mentioned, I had only one day and couldn’t spend much time at each country.  Despite the time, I must admit that I am very satisfied with my visit. I couldn’t see everything in detail but I still got a general survey.

 THE TREE OF LIFE 

The Tree of Life is the symbol of the Italian pavilion and was designed by the the creative director Marco Balich, representative of one of the most extraordinary periods of human genius: the Renaissance period. It represents the importance of participating, sharing and generosity between the various populations and culture.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE 

Expo offers a wide selection of food and beverage. From Paella to hot dogs, you will find everything your heart desires. Restaurants, self-service , bar, kiosk and street food are just waiting for you. The prices are slightly higher as usual but still in the normal frame. I paid 8 € for a wrap (piadina) at Eataly.

Eataly is an area of 20 italian regional restaurants, where you can find food and wine from the diverse regions of Italy.  In addition, there are available various free water dispenser on the whole Expo.

MY PERSONAL IMPRESSION

Sincerely I was very overwhelmed by the many impressions at the Expo. You see so much in one day that you need time to process everything. I have imagined it could be boring – rather the contrary. I’ve never seen something enormous like this. Great respect to everyone who worked for it. It was a great experience that I would do at any time again.  It’s absolutely worth the price!

By the way the next Expo (2017) will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan with the theme “Energy of the future”.
